We all have experienced time throughout the workday where we are burned out from countless hours of projects and tasks with absolutely no breaks. The frowned-upon concept surrounding taking breaks throughout the workday should be encouraged! As with many aspects of life, moderation is key. Thus, we must sustain our productivity levels in the long term and there is no better way to do this than the Pomodoro Technique.
Developed in the late 1980s by Francesco Cirillo, an Italian student, quick breaks to reset one’s mind is essential to consistently improve upon your productivity and overall effectiveness. Now, what is this so-called Pomodoro Technique? Let’s split the process into four distinct steps to fully comprehend this together:
Step 1: Choose a distinct project, assignment, or task at hand that will be focused on throughout the process.
Note: The Pomodoro Technique applies to all occupations! From a full-time Student to a Software Engineer, pay close attention.
Step 2: Set a timer for 25 minutes and begin making substantial progress on your work!
Before beginning your work, turn off and store away any possible distractions to ensure your focus is sustained.
Step 3: Take a 2-3-minute break!
25 minutes have passed, time for a break!
Step 4: Rinse and repeat!
Keep in mind, this technique can and should be adjusted to meet your personal needs! If needed, feel free to slightly change the amount of time you work versus the break length.
